Joel Bertsch
After graduating from Coeur d’Alene High School Joel enrolled in the Auto Mechanics program
at NIC. While there, he met the son of a man who was starting an HVAC Company. Joel ended
up switching vocations and worked for that company for the next 12 years. Over the following 8
years he worked for two commercial mechanical companies here in Coeur d’Alene. In 2005 he
started his own business. For the first couple of years he was the only employee. He answered
the phones, did the mechanical work and the billing. The original business phone number was
his cell phone and is still his cell phone number. Today the company has grown to over 30
employees. Although his role has changed.
Kim Bertsch
Kim is a Coeur d’ Alene native and has much experience in Bookkeeping. She married into the
HVAC industry and has contributed so much to the success and growth of JA Bertsch. When
she is not working, she loves to read, travel, go boating, camping and spend time with her
family. She is also a grandma! Team member since 2007.
Angela has lived in the CDA area for over 11 years and has an extensive background in Management and Business Development. She has worked for JA Bertsch for over 3 years and has a great passion for the PNW community! Angela has 2 grown children, a granddaughter and two poodles! In her spare time, she enjoys being with her family, friends and crafting. Team Member since 2021.
Alicia has been an Idaho resident for the past 22 years but grew up in the Seattle area. She has 35 years working in various industries, but her main focus has been bookkeeping. Alicia loves to crochet and spend time with her family and friends. She has 3 kids, 9 grandkids and an old english bulldog. Team member since 2024.
Miranda has lived in Coeur d’Alene since she was seven. She has an extensive background in customer service and worked for 8 years as a Veterinary Technician. The thing she likes most about her job is making connections with people. She has two daughters and two dogs. When not at work she loves to take mountain drives and have movie nights with her girls. Team Member since 2022.
Katie was born and raised in the North Idaho area. She has 28 years of experience as an Insurance Agent and prides herself in her Customer Service abilities. Katie has 2 teenage boys who play sports. She is passionate about being involved in their sporting activities. Team Member since 2025.
Liane is originally from Lewiston, Idaho, now residing in CDA. In her past career experiences, she’s done a little bit of everything, from newspaper running, school teacher to phlebotomist. She thrives on helping people. Liane has 1 daughter and loves to spend time with her as well as go dancing. She also reads A LOT. Team Member since 2025.
Brian is Coeur d’Alene native and graduate of Lake City High School. He worked as a millwright in a sawmill where his employer sent him to school to learn electrical. He then spent several years working in a steel mill. Eventually he and his family made their way back to Idaho and to JA Bertsch. In his off time he enjoys bass fishing and camping with his family. Team Member since 2021.
After serving 4 years in the US Army, Luke worked as an electrician. One day his boss asked him to learn how to fabricate ducting and the rest is history. Luke is a Journeyman and is the Manager of our Install Department. In his spare time you will find him out hunting or fishing. Team Member since 2014.
April is a former Low Voltage Electrician from Oregon. She moved to Idaho and found that HVAC was a natural step for her so she joined the apprenticeship program and is now a Journeyman. She says the best part of the job is that every day is different. In her spare time April enjoys cooking especially trying new recipes. Team Member since 2019.
A Native of Sandpoint and an artist. Burk started at JA Bertsch as an apprentice. He completed his training and is a certified HVAC Journeyman. Burk says he meets the nicest people through his work! Team Member since 2016.
Chris has been working with Joel since 2007 when he joined the company and married Joel’s daughter. Chris is a Journeyman and has always enjoyed building things so HVAC was a great fit. Team Member since 2007.
Josh was born in Virginia and grew up in a Navy family. He started high school in Pennsylvania and finished in Silverdale, Washington. He then served in the Air Force, where he was a Munitions Specialist. Josh met his wife, who was from Rathdrum, ID and eventually moved here. He enrolled in the NIC college HVAC program and is working towards being an HVAC
Journeyman. He and his wife are incredibly busy with their five children who are all into sports. Occasionally they do get a date night and will see a movie or a concert. Team Member since 2022.
When KC was a teen he used a job service. They sent him to an HVAC Company. It was a great fit and they taught him all about the industry. KC says “it’s a great feeling to help customers with their heating and cooling needs.” KC, his wife and two kids moved to Coeur d’Alene after visiting here on a vacation. In his spare time he and his family enjoy hiking, camping and anything outdoors. Team member since 2024.
Jesse has lived in the Inland NW nearly his whole life. He previously worked in the construction field before starting his career in HVAC. Now he works in our Install Department as an HVAC Journeyman! Jesse has his pup, Gretchen, whom he loves. Team Member since 2022
Blaine was shoeing a horse one day when the horse’s owner asked him if he could fix a furnace. Turns out he was better at fixing furnaces than shoeing horses. That was 27 years ago and he has never looked back. Team Member since 2013.
John graduated from Lake City High School and then joined the Air Force. He became an aircraft electrician then worked in avionics on the F35 aircraft. After 6 years he returned home and joined the family business. John worked in install and service for a few years and is now in sales. Team Member since 2018.
Tim was a breeder of pythons and other reptiles that were used in educational programs for kids. He then at the request of his wife joined a friend in the HVAC business. That was 21 years ago but he still looks for reptiles wherever he goes! Tim is the Manager of our Service Department. Team Member since 2020.
Eric is originally from Vancouver Washington. He earned his bachelors degree in Forestry from the University of Idaho in Moscow. While in college he worked in building maintenance and discovered a love for HVAC. He later went on to trade school and is now an HVAC Technician. Eric, his wife and daughter moved to Coeur d’Alene for his wife’s career. In their spare time they enjoy hanging out at the beach or going to the park. Team member since 2022.
Eric started in the HVAC industry in Virginia where oil furnaces are very common, these and boilers became his specialty. He moved to Idaho to be with the love of his life….lucky for us she lived in Coeur d’Alene. Eric and his wife now have three boys. Team Member since 2019.
Jesse was born and raised in Emmett, Idaho. There, he was offered a job introducing him to the HVAC industry. He has enjoyed working to earn his HVAC Journeyman’s license, being a lead in our Install department until he eventually transitioned into the Service department (where he is thriving). Jesse and his wife enjoy outdoor activities such as snowboarding, fishing, and hiking. They recently welcomed their new baby girl into the world. Team member since 2021.
Sean is a second-generation Idahoan who graduated from Coeur d’ Alene High School. He worked in the restaurant industry for many years but decided he wanted more of a regular schedule to spend more time with his family. He enrolled in the HVAC Program at NIC. After competition, he started working at JA Bertsch to further his HVAC career. Sean married his high
school sweetheart. They have 3 children together. When Sean is not working, he likes to help with his daughters’ competitive swim team, spending time with his family doing things such as camping, hiking, snowboarding, etc. Team member since 2022.
James graduated from Coeur d’ Alene High School and KTECH as a CNA. He eventually decided that working as a CNA was not for him. He had jobs working as a roofer, framer, and a wheelchair technician but was very intrigued by the HVAC industry. James loves to
paddleboard, fish, hunt and hike. He adores his little girl. Team Member since 2022.
Zach grew up in both Everett and Spokane Washington. When his Dad retired he moved to Coeur d’Alene and Zach joined him. He was looking for a career that was challenging but neither repetitive or dull. He feels that HVAC may be the career for him. In his spare time he likes to draw, hike and explore new places with his Australian Shepherd. Team member since 2023.
Joseph’s family moved to Idaho during Covid and made it their home. He graduated from Kootenai Bridge Academy. Joseph tried out HVAC, at his brother’s suggestion, and it turns out he likes it a lot! He appreciates the detail in the work as well as the challenge. In his spare time he enjoys doing things with his family, playing soccer and golfing. He also has two dogs named Samson and Buster. Team member since 2024.
Tyler grew up in the Silver Valley and graduated from Wallace High School. While working for Walmart he took advantage of their education program and was training to be an electrician. He decided that HVAC would be a better fit, so he joined the JA Bertsch Home Team. Tyler enjoys fishing, hunting and huckleberry picking with his wife. Team Member since 2021.
Mike is originally from Chehalis, WA where he worked in the Tire Industry for 35 years. With his past experience, his role as the “Warehouse Clerk” of JA Bertsch works well for him. His favorite activity outside of work is spending time with his wife and four-legged Boxer “Reign”. Boating is a big highlight as well. Team Member since 2025.
